Reader Archeology: How the Turks discovered America by Jorge Amado

When "How the Turks discovered America" was published, the newspaper Le Figaro expressed that it was "A small masterpiece of the great Beloved, which is NOT a surprise".
EMECÉ published the book in 1994. The novel is about 206 passionate pages, including a glossary.
Le Figaro was right. It is true. Jorge Amado was a great writer. One of the best authors in Brazil.
The truth is that this book is not about history and the Turks are not Turks. Its protagonists are Jamil and Raduan. They are one Syrian and the other Lebanese and arrive in Brazil at the beginning of the last century to settle in Bahia.
Jamil will settle in a jungle village. Jamil is immersed in the new El Dorado del cacao. Raduan will prosper in the city of Itabuna.
The main thing in the novel is when Raduan advises Ibrahim, a merchant friend, to associate with Jamil. Ibrahim will win or not if he decides to marry Jamil's daughter.
Adma is not beautiful or sweet. I can not rebel more than this: The woman is a force of nature. . . Jorge Amado prefers them that way. That's how we like to be us, women. . .
