Reading Archeology: Romancero de Castro Alves de Jorge Amado

Castro Alves (1847-1871) was a man of fierce fighting. Castro Alves is rescued as a liberal fighter and a staunch defender of the abolitionist cause.

"The people accompany him and the countryside was uncultivated.
He was too bold. . .
His insult came to hurt the rich man. . .
and rebelled the poor. . .

Jorge Amado's book was published by LOSADA in Buenos Aires in 1977. While the Argentine dictatorship (1976-1983) was killing people, they resisted with poetry.

"Walker you pass on the way
Following the course of the desert. . . "

This book illuminates the heart and teaches us about Castro Alves the great Brazilian and his passionate figure. His romanticism and popularity caress us the soul. Amado portrays the man and the poet with great delicacy.

"The square, the square is the town
As the sky is of the condor.
It's a nest where freedom
Breed the eagle to its warmth. "

ABC de Castro Alves, was the original title of this work by Jorge Amado. ABC de Castro Alves began to be published in 1941 in the famous magazine Directrizes as a serial. It reads for a lifetime.
